In 2017, we wanted to extend our product range and get funds for upgrading our workshop with state-of-the-art technology. That’s why we decided to create our first project on the well-known crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. We have to admit we made many mistakes, so the first campaign wasn’t funded, but the experience we gained allowed us to fund all our later projects.
Below you can read more about our crowdfunding adventures. Each project was a new opportunity for us to learn more about the needs of our customers and the wargaming community and also to upgrade our workshop, extend the product range, services, logistics and, last but not least, experience.
BANTAM ALLEY - a project for everyone who loves really fine and beautiful details in their wargaming projects. It's for both novices and veterans: gamers, miniature painters, terrain makers, diorama builders, modelers, collectors and other hobbyists.
Our post-apocalyptic city is designed for 28–32 mm scale and includes fine-detail elements, handmade resin cast scatter terrain, prototypes built from scratch and bits made of our 3D printed original models.
The project opened our path to the fascinating world of 3D design and printing as well as resin casting and reproduction of parts and terrains. Thanks to these technologies, our models have been enriched with stunning details, so we can create more realistic and scenic battlefields.
PRINTABLE MODEL SETS - Printable detail sets for wargaming, terrain and other tabletop games. STL files. Ready for 28–32 mm scale. Fully scalable.
After the success of the Bantam Alley and many requests concerning the availability of the printable files, in 2018, we decided, together with my associate and friend Tomek Pawłowicz from Tokamak Studio, to make all the 3D files available. We created the project and did all the marketing activities in social media before, during and after the campaign. Up to this day, Tomek is our main designer of 3D models and parts. In 2019, we published another pack of STL files titled HOUSEHOLD ITEMS. If you want to buy those packs, click here.
Even though 3D files of wargaming terrain accessories became more and more popular across forums and crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter, we decided to go against the tide. Our next goal was to implement a line and a series of models from polyurethane foam and to print wargaming mats on the basis of our hand-made prototype. The final result was our next project which was created with the help and trust of many people.
GÅRDBÛK SHRINE – winter wargaming battlefield terrain. Printed game mats and fully painted, handmade temple terrain, which has become a great success thanks to a great Kickstarter campaign and top reviews after its conclusion. We sold almost 300 sets, which greatly surpassed our wildest dreams. In 2018–2021, we had five folks responsible for the project, preparation of the models and logistics. This led to a natural turn of events: a sequel.
GÅRDBÛK SHRINE 2 – four complete and fully painted themes: Frozen Wastelands of Nowhere, Desert of Mon'theran, Lava Pits of Sheol and Forest of Felicia terrains ready for gaming right out of the box.
Light and very durable PU foam was a great material for creating wargaming terrains and Gårdbûk Shrine models are our best sellers even today.
PETROLYARD – the continuation of the Bantam Alley series. It's an epic post-apocalyptic tabletop set of resin buildings (gas station, warehouse, garage and office), barricades and scatter terrains which together form a Petrolyard complex for a 28–32 mm miniature scale.
The magnetizable system with detachable roofs and openable doors lets you play even more original and gripping scenarios inside and outside the Petrolyard buildings and other models. The complex gives plenty of room to move barricades and scatter terrain around the fully playable interior of the buildings and on the area outside between them. All terrain elements can be easily placed inside the larger structures as well as on the roofs to provide new and exciting layouts.
The Petrolyard project was also popular with gamers and became a commercial success because of its playability, the growing numbers of players of skirmish games and popularity of the zombie theme. The whole set was available during the Kickstarter campaign and late pledge stage. Today, only parts and separate elements of the Petrolyard complex are available, so if you want to hunt some zombies in a gas station.
BATTLEPACK – a revolutionary solution for everyone who values mobility in their wargaming hobby. You can be on the move with your gaming battlefield surface and city terrain. Go where you please, store it where you want, carry it on your back, take it in your car, public transport, to your friends or a tournament and PLAY WELL ANYWHERE.
At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, we thought it would be convenient to carry your own battlefield to your trusted friends. Unfortunately, the project did not gain much traction. Nevertheless, we are very proud of the idea, as it required much effort from us and our sub-contractors and a lot of concept, prototype and testing work. In this campaign, we created a modular city mat on the basis of a handmade prototype, cast resin building ruins which could be easily and safely transported, as well as our first sewn designer accessories with StudioLevel logo: backpack, mat cover, felt cases and many other pretty things.
BATTLE SQUARES: Trays and Bases – magnetic, scenic resin bases and movement trays for fantasy “rank and flank” wargames. Everything is available in sets and completely separately. Graveyard-themed squares and rectangles will make your heroes look unique and regiments will look like a part of a bloodthirsty warband or a battle-hardened army, depending on your faction.
Even though we know that trays and bases for minis and “rank and flank” wargames are not the hottest things at the moment, again we decided to create a product dedicated to a narrow group of players, who appreciated the idea and our work. If you missed the Battle Squares campaign and you need such old-school stuff, we’ve got your bases covered here.
What's next?
In the near future, we plan to create round bases which will be also based on handmade prototypes, because at StudioLevel we always create handmade products for wargame fanatics. Currently, though, we focus on private commissions. If you have a crazy idea or a dream scenery you want to see on your tabletop, let us know, we are more than ready. And if you are looking for battle-tested solutions, a traditional battlefield, a terrain set or separate models well-received by gamers from all around the world, take a look at our shop and see the quality, originality and possibilities of our products.
